Daily Painting, Day 1

After some consideration and reflecting on my past experience I decided to start day painting, which is painting a small work as frequent as I can, ideally every day. There are numerous benefits of practicing this routine. So, here is my first day painting. It was fun and ultimately rewarding process. Stay tuned for my next works and comments.

"A sunny day in Muskoka", 9x12 oil on canvas, $250

I painted alla prima and it took me about four hours to complete this painting.

Painting tips: I applied an acrylic warm grey imprimatura before starting my oil painting session. It greatly helped with color consistency across the entire piece and provided an excellent mid-tone surface to apply the first layer of dark oil paint. Using  ‘scumbling’ within that first layer allowed the underlying warm gray to peek through, which effectively helped me create a strong illusion of light and depth right from the start.
